Resurgence of the Hillsborough Caldera

After several hundred thousand years, the Hillsborough Caldera resurged (refilled with magma). As the new magma began to enter the collapsed chamber, it pushed and squeezed higher into the ash and lava deposits from the previous eruptions, as evidenced by large bodies of solidified magma of intrusive rocks called plutons (granodiorite and diorite).
