The Hillsborough Caldera and the succession of mafic and felsic volcanic activity

The volcanic rocks were first altered hydrothermally into fluorine and kaolinite, according to Sykes and Moody in 1978. In a later metamorphism phase, the kaolinite became pyrophyllite and sericite.
